Our Honour to Serve You
Military Star is a financial service exclusively available to military personnel and their families, department of defense (DoD) Civilians, Purple Heart recipients and Disabled Veterans and Veterans who received Honorable or general under Honorable conditions discharge.
The clients approached us with a lift-and-shift migration of their backend to a new framework without altering the codebase. While they insisted on maintaining a consistent design across various platforms, this approach could lead to performance and scalability issues. We suggested a more comprehensive solution involving code modernization and responsive design to ensure a better overall user experience and long-term sustainability.
We tackled this challenge by creating a comprehensive design system that served as a guideline for all platforms. We then introduced subtle yet impactful updates, such as eliminating unnecessary gradients, implementing WCAG 2.2-compliant colors, fixing alignments and adjusting font and banner sizes, to achieve a cohesive and unified experience across the entire platform.

Reflection
The project, though straightforward, proved to be a rewarding experience. It challenged our organizational abilities as we compiled and extracted existing design elements. While the client initially expressed reservations about certain changes due to their preferred lift-and-shift approach, we were ultimately able to find common ground and successfully implement the necessary updates.
What’s Next?
Future steps for the project will be determined by the client's needs and goals. If the client plans to expand with new products, we'll assess their fit within the existing design system and potentially create new elements. Otherwise, we'll focus on maintaining the current system and making minor updates. We'll collaborate closely with the client to develop a plan that aligns with their specific requirements.
