Turn Your Bicycle Into a Smart One
Cycle Buddy is the only app you need when going for a bike ride. Made for any rider level, Cycle Buddy integrates many tools and features like a bike bell for the casual ride, to maps for an adventurous one.
Developing Cycle Buddy presented several challenges; the primary hurdle was the limitations of MIT App Inventor, our chosen development tool. Its restricted design integrations and logical capabilities required creative workarounds within the design to achieve the desired user experience. Additionally, balancing simplicity with functionality was crucial. The app had to be easily navigable and minimally distracting, ensuring riders could use it safely while cycling.

Its intuitive interface boasts a clear dashboard displaying essential metrics like time, speed, duration, and calorie burn. Large, easy-to-navigate buttons minimize screen time, ensuring a seamless user experience. The app also includes a convenient bike bell for safe interactions with other riders and pedestrians. For those seeking exploration, built-in maps guide you to your desired destinations. Additionally, Cycle Buddy provides access to valuable resources about the biking community and non-profit organizations, fostering a deeper connection to the cycling world.

CycleBuddy was developed through our shared passion for exploring the neighborhood on our bikes. As we embarked on these rides, we recognized a need for a tool that could enhance our cycling experience without compromising safety. This realization sparked the idea for a user-friendly app that would provide essential information and features, assisting cyclists to enjoy their journeys to the fullest.
What’s Next?
As CycleBuddy was born out of personal passion, we remain open to future enhancements based on our own cycling experiences. We'll continue to assess the need for additional features, such as advanced route planning, social sharing capabilities or parts replacements/fixing. User testing will also play a pivotal role in shaping the app's future development, ensuring it remains a valuable tool for cyclists of all levels.
